During the past six months your organization has been remarkably active and energized in new and exciting ways. The association has developed a new vision, mission, values, service relationships, and strategic intents to guide us into the new millennium.
At a special gathering June 16-17, 2000, board members, division presidents and division representatives, steering committee members, demonstration team coaches, special guests and staff convened to identify positive and negative aspects about the association and its educational delivery systems. Overall, the objective was to make bold recommendations for positive change. Coined the "Creative Congress," the meeting resulted in suggestions for ways in which the national association, working in tandem with the divisions, can best serve the member and move the association forward. Participants identified six key "passions," or priorities, for the board to consider during its strategic planning process.
Using these recommendations as its basis of discussion, the board met October 13-14, 2000 in a special session led by facilitators Kathleen Hessler and Sally Sparhawk. The commitment to continue the momentum of the Creative Congress was clearly evident, and the session confirmed the thoughts, dreams, and aspirations of the Congress participants. I hope you find the resulting revisions to the association's vision, mission, values, service relationships, and strategic intents (presented below) as exciting and inspiring as those who initiated the process.
The only thing more exciting than this material will would be three feet of new snow before Thanksgiving!!
