Butch Peterson

Butch Peterson
AASI Snowboard Team

Butch first strapped on a snowboard at the top of the Jackson Hole tram during a spring break vacation from the University of Minnesota. Minutes later, after being spanked faster than a frat boy at a dominatrix convention, he was schooled on what snowboarding without instruction can do a body.

Despite the harsh introduction to the sport, he fell in love with the weightless sensation of floating through powder, boosting off jumps, and the overall mental and physical passion of being on a snowboard.

A year later, leaving his paddle and canoe in the Midwest, he spent a season snowboarding in Aspen/Snowmass, Colorado. The season melted into a year, the year melted into a decade until it all seemed like a long, white blur.

At some point he started teaching snowboarding, and gained notoriety in the Aspen Ski and Snowboard School for spilling coffee on himself. To escape the criticism, he became an AASI-RM certification examiner/regional mascot.

Back in Aspen, Butch was instrumental in developing relevant and intriguing snowboard clinics including such topics as Exploratory Jibbing, Higher Ed, and Train for Cert III, with Bert and Ernie!
